Director-General, West African Institute of Public Health
Dr. Francis Ohanyido is the Director-General of the West African Institute of Public Health and President Emeritus of the Academy of Public Health, Nigeria. A distinguished physician, strategist, and entrepreneur with almost three decades of experience, he worked with prominent entities like UNHCR, UNICEF, WHO, USAID, Sabin Institute and others, focused on improving health outcomes in Africa. Ohanyido sits on the Africa CDC’s Scientific Programme Committee and the Interim Board (Taskforce) of the Africa Digital Health Networks (ADHN), its flagship digital health community initiative. He Chairs the Council of Trustees of the United Nations SDGs Africa and Harvard Business Review’s Advisory Council. He advises governments, contributing to policy milestones like the Nigeria National Health Act. A 2022 West Africa Leadership Award winner, Ohanyido is a global voice for UHC, PHC, health security, and healthtech, and holds multiple fellowships, including UK's Faculty of Public Health, and the Academy of Public Health.
