1. Tell us about your organisation and activities in the healthcare industry, with a focus on the Middle East region.

First, I'd like to highlight what an incredibly exciting time it is in the Middle East right now for digital transformation. Almost 70% of Middle East companies plan to migrate most of their operations to the cloud within the next two years with a US$73 billion in economic value predicted to be unlocked by 2033 across the Middle East and North Africa.

Recognising the incredible digital transformation agenda in the region, AWS has established a strong presence in the Middle East through strategic infrastructure investments, including cloud regions in UAE, Bahrain, with a third planned for Saudi Arabia in 2026. Building on this, we recently announced an AED3.7B strategic partnership with e& in the UAE to accelerate the impact of cloud-driven innovation and digital transformation across the region.

We're actively supporting healthcare transformation through various initiatives, from working with the Ministry of Health to setting up and executing national initiatives to leading providers like in UAE to King's Hospital on Generative AI solutions to offer over 700 healthcare-specific solutions through AWS Marketplace. Through partnerships with pharmaceutical, genomic sequencing, and medical device organizations, we're helping create a more connected and efficient healthcare ecosystem in the Middle East.

Our comprehensive security framework, including 143 standards and 50+ global certifications, ensures healthcare organizations can innovate while maintaining strict compliance.

2. In your opinion, what sets you apart from others in your area of expertise?

What truly sets AWS apart is our deep understanding that healthcare transformation isn't just about technology – it's about solving fundamental industry challenges like accessibility, affordability, and quality of prevention and care. While others offer point solutions, we're tackling healthcare's most complex problems through a unique combination of global innovation and local expertise, as was recognized recently with the 2025 KLAS Award for Public Cloud for Healthcare.

We recognize that healthcare providers in the Middle East face distinct challenges: rapidly growing populations, improving longevity and lifespan, increasing chronic disease burden, and the need to serve diverse populations across urban and remote areas. Our response is comprehensive, ranging from enabling remote healthcare delivery in rural communities through edge computing solutions, to powering precision medicine initiatives with advanced genomics capabilities, to accelerating prevention and diagnostic accuracy through AI/ML tools that understand local health patterns and demographics.

The AWS healthcare ecosystem is unmatched – we've united traditional healthcare giants like GE, Philips, and Dedalus with innovative healthtech startups (80% of which run on AWS) to create solutions specifically tailored to regional needs. We recognize that navigating a complex regulatory and legislative landscape to ensure data security can be a challenge, particularly in highly regulated industries such as healthcare. Our strategic partnership with e& brings together cloud infrastructure and solutions from AWS, which are sovereign by design, with e&’s network capabilities to address the most stringent healthcare requirements. Together we're ensuring these innovations meet strict local data regulations while respecting cultural considerations.

But most importantly, we're democratizing access to cutting-edge healthcare technology with Cloud and AI. Whether it's a major hospital system or regional health system implementing AI-driven diagnostics or a rural clinic launching its first telehealth program, we're making advanced healthcare capabilities accessible and affordable to all, while maintaining unwavering standards in security and compliance.

3. Share your thoughts on the current market trends that impact your focus area. What are the sectors poised for growth?

The Middle East healthcare landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by five key trends: AI-driven healthcare revolution, precision medicine and genomics advancements, virtual health acceleration, data interoperability, and the shift towards value-based care models. According to PwC's Middle East Health Industries report, nearly 70% of regional healthcare organizations plan to migrate to cloud within two years, while the MENA digital health market is expected to reach $252B by 2033. The region's genomics market is expanding rapidly, with initiatives like the national Emirate Genome Program in UAE, the Saudi Human Genome Program sequencing 100,000 samples. Telehealth adoption has surged, with McKinsey reporting a 40-fold increase in MENA since 2020. These trends are creating high-growth opportunities in digital therapeutics, AI-powered clinical support tools, genomics platforms, and virtual care delivery solutions. Backed by ambitious government initiatives like UAE's National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 healthcare transformation. The region is primed for unprecedented healthcare technology innovation. We see a big trend in building regional health systems and driving population health, investing in new hospitals but also enabling the virtual care approach in building a digital person-centered health infrastructure to overcome the major health challenges.

4. If any, please tell us about some of your notable investments and partnerships, as well as your plans for the year ahead.

e& and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have formed a significant strategic partnership worth over $1 billion (AED3.7 billion) over six years. The collaboration aims to combine AWS's sovereign cloud infrastructure with e&'s network capabilities to serve customers in the public sector and regulated industries across the Middle East.

e& and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have formed a significant strategic partnership worth over $1 billion over six years, which has now led to the launch of the UAE Sovereign Launchpad and fulfill the sovereign requirements. This new cloud offering, endorsed by the UAE Cybersecurity Council, aims to accelerate the adoption of cloud and AI services for the UAE public sector and regulated industries. The collaboration is expected to add US$181 billion cumulative value to the nation's digital economy by 2033. This will help the digital transformation in UAE driving population health, genomic research and clinical innovation in provider sector.

AWS and HUMAIN, Saudi Arabia's newly created company responsible for driving AI innovation, announced a $5 billion-plus strategic partnership to build an "AI Zone" in Saudi Arabia. The partnership aims to develop AI solutions using AWS technologies, create a unified AI agent marketplace, and advance Large Language Models (LLMs), including Arabic Large Language Models (ALLaM).

The Middle East healthcare market will also benefit from our global partnerships with healthcare market leader like Philips, GE, Illumina, Dedalus, the top 10 medical device companies running on AWS, 9 of 10 of the pharma companies using AWS for their AI strategy.

5. What will you be showcasing at WHX Tech? What opportunities are you looking forward to?

We aim to show solutions to solve the healthcare challenges of population health, prevention, chronic disease management, improving the supply chain as well as driving research for drug and treatment discovery and using Omics dataset.

We are giving insights into Agentic AI and GenAI showing the capability of Bedrock and Sagemaker, presenting our sovereign capabilities, explaining how to setup multi modal health data managements to build digital twin environments for patients, hospitals or the whole population, showing virtual care solution as well as the power of trusted research environments but also best practices in how to migrate mission workloads like from SAP, EPIC, Dedalus into the Cloud or also whole institutions like hospitals.

6. What’s a recent moment at the company that made you genuinely proud?

One of my most rewarding experiences has been witnessing the remarkable transformation in Middle East healthcare through AWS's initiatives. Our dedicated healthcare team has been working passionately alongside customers, guiding them through their digital transformation journeys. It's particularly inspiring to see how healthcare organizations in the region have embraced Amazon's innovation methodologies, especially the Working Backwards mechanism and PR/FAQ approach, which have become integral to their innovation processes.

A significant milestone was our second AWS Health GenAI Summit this June, which brought together over 200 healthcare leaders. This event truly showcased AWS's leadership in healthcare AI innovation and real-world implementations, including for instance a genAI solution developed in 72 hours by UK Essen (Germany) and an AI-powered medical image encoding achieving 90% compression by TheraPanacea (France). Another highlight was the digital physician assistant developed by BinPar for the Ministry of Health of Catalunya (Spain) achieving 98% satisfaction rates, being now scaled to 20,000 healthcare professionals.

The discussions were incredibly dynamic, ranging from cutting-edge ambient AI scribing solutions to sophisticated AI research environments. We explored the potential of Agentic AI and the critical importance of secure GenAI infrastructures. The summit featured visionary keynotes and thought-provoking panel discussions that painted a compelling picture of AI's transformative role in healthcare. What really stood out was the shared vision among participants about the path toward broader AI adoption and its potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

7. Favorite leadership quote?

“There are many advantages to a customer-centric approach, but here’s the big one: Customers are always beautifully, wonderfully dissatisfied, even when they report being happy and business is great. Even when they don’t yet know it, customers want something better, and your desire to delight customers will drive you to invent on their behalf.” Jeff Bezos, Founder and Executive Chari, Amazon.com

8. Finish this sentence: ‘If I weren’t a CEO/CMO, I’d probably be...’

A professor teaching innovation and 'Think Big' strategies, inspiring students to drive disruptive change in their fields.

9. Anything else you would like to add?

At its core, healthcare is deeply personal. Every datapoint represents someone's life story - a parent waiting anxiously for test results, an elderly patient seeking dignity in treatment, or a rural family needing specialist care. What truly matters isn't the technology itself, but the human connections it enables. Through AWS's work in the Middle East, we're not just helping to build healthcare systems; we're creating the prevention and care we all hope to receive when we need it most. Our mission extends beyond infrastructure and innovation - it's about ensuring better healthcare access and outcomes for our parents, our children, and generations to come.
